So Warner Bros Is going ham on the marketing Of Suicide Squad and they are not hesitating exploiting their characters. Music videos is a huge marketing tool. You can promote products and services with a catchy tune and you can help create whatever Lifestyle you're trying to portray. Now I was already planning on seeing Suicide Squad so I didn't need a Rick Ross music video to convince me but why oh why did they they drag the Joker in the music video if they wasn't going to do anything with the character but have him stand around and look menacing.
I mean its not like the sucker for pain video was any good (why is there a man in Harley's Cage?) but at least Heathens video was on point, making the artist in the same prison as the squad, using editing tricks to make it seems like its part of the film but what went right with that video, they failed with "Purple Lamborghini". If you're not going to use clips from the film and plan on actually including a character in the music video then USE THE CHARACTER TO THE FULL ADVANTAGE!!! From what Ive been told, Joker isn't in the film for more than 15 minutes. Music videos in a way are short films. I would of prefer to see a story of the Joker coming to Miami for a heist or a drug deal (or whatever the joker is doing today to see the world burn) and he enlist Skrillex to introduce him to Rick Ross who has enough street solders to get the job done...but instead the whole video is about bad boys standing around looking tough, moving like they about to do something big but all they end up doing is looking and running up on a boat.
The Joker has 75 years of History! There was soo much that could of been done in the video to entice me to see more of the Joker in Suicide Squad.. maybe Leto couldn't get back into character in a short period of time, maybe they wasn't paying him enough and it was in the contract when he did the film that he had to be in a music video, maybe no one wanted to write dialogue for a music video (which is stupid because you already have the cast, crew and location, whats wrong with a bit of dialogue?). Remember the Will smith videos of the past cross promoting his films and albums? Maybe he could of gave them an idea or two.
I miss Micheal Jackson. He's the only one who used Music Video to his full advantage. We did a short film featuring the joker once...that was fun.
