The Happytime Murders

I remember reading a blog on slash film 10 years ago about a r rated puppet film called @happytimemovie (that was supposed to Star Cameron Diaz at the time) was in development hell. Finally in 2018, the movie is out and it’s everything I imagined it would be. I love The Muppets and everything Jim Henson have created. I also like R rated comedies that’s done with a different medium (Team America World Police, South Park, Ted 2, Sausage party, etc) and this one fits on the list. Now the film isn’t super hilarious but I love the approach it took for a buddy cop comedy/puppet movie. I hope #HensonAlternative continues to produce content like this. It was a fun experiment. I enjoyed it. Not as much as Who framed Roger Rabbit but it definitely was a good time. I don’t know if it’s worth seeing on the big screen tho. Worth watching on an airplane or streaming it online or rental from a kiosk. Mile 22

8/24/2018

So this weekend I finally saw #mile22 and damn it, was I disappointed!!! I like watching Marky Mark movies but neither of the films he has done with Peter berg has caught my eye but I figured this was interesting enough to see in theaters. I was wrong. 16 blocks and Safe house has told this story better. The only difference between those films and this one, is that they had an ending. This film spent too much time trying to set up the trilogy. I’m not even interested in seeing the next installment because Mark Wahlberg’s character is so unlikeable. Spent the whole time thinking Iko Uwais would make his character humble when they find common ground as the story progressed but that didn’t happened. He was an asshole the whole film. Not even a likable asshole (like how Red was an asshole on that 70’s show but was still likable). The fights choreography is As brutal and violent and gruesome as the film “the raid” but no where near it when it comes to directing and editing. Whoever Peter Berg or the studio hired to edit made a horrible decision. They ruined every chance they had to build suspense, they ruined Iko Uwais perfectly choreographed fight scenes and honestly, they ruined the whole movie. If the story was edited linear, maybe the story could of worked for me but the editing as all over the place. The story was all over the place. Too much coverage, too much story going on at the same time, not enough pacing, it’s just too much. Not worth seeing in theaters. Crazy Rich Asians

I really dig #crazyrichasians. Getting married is a universal thing, don’t need to know anything about Asian cultures to understand marriage and family traditions. The Women in the audience cheered seeing the bride walk down the aisle and there was not 1 Asian women in the theater I was in. It’s not a foreign film but it’s about being foreign. Not really a culture clash film because the culture of wealth is very Americanize. It’s really about not fitting in and still accepting yourself. If you dig Tyler Perry’s early romantic comedies, you will dig this. Or any romantic comedy.. it’s as cliche as them all... even ends with the declaring my love for you at the airport scene. I love the music choices, it knows went to be authentic to the Asian culture but knows when to play Marvin Gaye or sing Elvis’s lyrics (can’t help falling in love with you). I complain about the Asian actress in transformers 4/the meg and thought maybe it was cause of the culture, her acting probably got lost in translation of the dialogue.. now I realize she just suck as an actress because everyone was great in this Film. Def a must see, it’s the ultimate date movie. Def recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good rom-com. Christopher Robin

Wow!! I didn’t not expect to enjoy the Disney film #christopherrobin as much as I did!! The Disney Company is so consistent with their quality and brand of entertainment. I wasn’t really interested in this film when I first saw the trailer and unlike Beauty and the beast or Jungle Book, this film isn’t an adaption of the #Winniethepooh movies or series but it’s true to what made Winnie the Pooh work for me as a child. I was more than entertained. Anybody could of played Christopher Robin but after see Ben Kenobi play him himself (Ewan McGregor), I can’t imagine anyone else playing the role. I didn’t like the CGI when I saw the trailer but as soon as the film started, I didn’t mind it. Eeyore was one of my favorite characters (outside of piglet, tigger and Winnie) and Brad Garret voice was perfect! This film is nostalgia at it’s best! If you watched Winnie the Pooh as a kid, this is a must see!!! I love the theme. It reminds me of films like “Hook” and “The Kid”. I love it!!! ❤️❤️❤️□□□Review/vlog coming soon #author #writer #movieblogger #blackbloggers #blackblogger #moviebuff #filmnerd #moviegeek #filmmaker #director #actor #writer #screenwriter #stayfocused #stayconsistent #work #grind #contentcreator #blogger #vlogger #disney #waltdisney #carlemilemoviereview #atthemovieswithCarlemile

The Spy who Dumped Me

8/16/2018

So.. #missionimpossiblefallout officially spoiled me!!! Seeing Mission Impossible 6 three times before seeing #thespywhodumpedme is a disservice. It’s a water down spy movie because it’s trying to be funny. It had a funnier moments but a lot of times it couldn’t make up its mind if it’s a comedy movie or an action adventure. Maybe I’m not the demographic for this film but I wasn’t really entertained. I’m not really a fan of spy parodies (I think the only spy comedy I enjoy was “I, Spy” with Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson). The action was decent, you can tell they didn’t have the same budget as Mission Impossible but the jokes fell flat a lot. I love Mila Kunis. I love Kate McKinnon but they deserve a better script. It’s a great concept, poor execution tho. Worth waiting to watch on TV. Not HBO tho. This is a TBS movie! Jurassic World 2

8/16/2018

*update: I meant Jurassic Park 5** You know, some reboot, sequels and prequels work because the nostalgic factor is very much still in effect with certain franchises. I can’t say the same with this one. I grew up on the #JurassicPark series (with the first two being my favorite). I had the movies, the games, the books, etc. I used to have nightmares wondering how would I escape a T-Rex if it came down my block. When I heard they we’re making new films, rebooting it as #JurassicWorld, initially I was excited... and then I saw the first film.. I wish I didn’t see the film on digital HD. Maybe the nostalgia would of been alive for me with that one because at least it was close to the original. This new one? It’s a water down version of the Steven Spielberg masterpieces. Michael crichton wrote two fantastic science fiction thrillers which these new films forgot all about. #Jurassicworldfallenkingdom has forgotten what made the first films work. It’s all about glorified cameos, product placement and merchandising. The script is predictable, the characters are dull and it feels like they were making things up as they went along. It still is the sci fi adventure I remember but the suspense and thrills are gone. They started focusing too much on the monster movie elements and making the dinosaurs heroes and villains. The editing felt like I was watching a 2 hour trailer at times. It’s an amusement park attraction, not a movie. If you plan on seeing it, it’s worth seeing on IMAX 3D if anything. If not, wait to watch it on an airplane on your way to a REAL island. The Meg

8/16/2018

After seeing #blackkklansman yesterday, I needed to escape and #themeg is definitely an escape! It’s a big budget B Movie. Something you would of thought the guys who make Sharknado would of made (if they had 100 million dollars) instead of the director of “National Treasure”. The film is really fun. It’s really entertaining, the script is decent, the cast is great, it’s definitely a good time. It’s not really a horror movie like Jaws or Deep Blue Sea. I can compare it to the film “Aliens”. It’s more of an adventure film. It’s not too scientific where you question everything, I find everything believable. Where Skyscraper went wrong, this film got right! Jason Statham was an actually champion swimmer before he became an actor so this part works for him. Def a must see in theaters. If you can, see it in 3D! I had to go back to finish @themegmovie, based on the science fiction horror of the same name. I had a good time when I started watching the film at the showcase cinema linden multiplex but had to leave early to record the freshest podcast. The meg is a fun movie. What I didn’t get out of Jurassic World 2 (or the last few Jurassic Park sequels) I got out of this film. It’s not scary as I expected. I thought it could be as scary as Final destination but it has plenty of jump scares. Enough jump scares to give you your fix of suspense. I find the movie really entertaining. Someone said Jason Statham wasn’t a good fit for this film. He has no clue what he was talking about. He is perfect in this film. This film is an American-Chinese co-production and it shows (just like Skyscraper or Transformers the last knight) but this fits with the story, doesn’t feel forced. The film is very cliche tho. At times I feel like I’m watching a 100 million dollar Asylum studio movie (the guys who makes sharknado) but it doesn’t shy away from being the B movie that it is. It does it’s best to keep raising the stakes every 15 minutes before it get stale without ever needing a shot of Jason punching a shark (which for some reason imagined would happened). A lot of uh oh and oh shits moments leading to an OMG! Def wish I saw this on IMAX 3D. There’s 6 books in the series. Wouldn’t mind seeing this become a film franchise. Blackkklansman

Lord!!! Have mercy!!!! Anyone who knows me know I’m a huge Spike lee fan. Bamboozled. Malcolm X. Inside Man. Jungle fever. Do the right thing (etc) I love this man work right here but I never seen his films in theaters so best believe I wanted to see #blackkklansman so I can experience his cinematic work on the big screen.. and I got more than I bargained for. I learned something about myself this weekend. I’m comfortable watching racism at home, not on the big screen. A lot of times when I see Spike’s works, I’m motivated, inspired and empowered. I didn’t get that from this film. It has its funny moment, there’s not much action, it’s a serious drama and as soon as the film starts we in the ugly face of racism and unlike the other films where I watched them in the comfort of my own home, I felt the dis-ease in the rawness of racism. Unlike the film Django unchained where I know it’s a fantasy, I couldn’t escape that this is real life (and y’all know I love coming to the movies to escape, Not to relive life ugliest moments). The script is great, the cast is great and of course Spike is a master director. I actually loved the first half of the film. It was entertaining, it was artistic and it was empowering.. but by the 3rd act.. things changed. The suspense was great in the end but once they resolve one issue, you realize they didn’t stop everything. The kkk didn’t end. It lived on. I think what bothered me is the fact the KKK could watch this film and not see anything wrong. I could actually see members of the Klan supporting this film because of the amount of scenes of just Klans talking shit in intimate settings (like at home in bed with their wives). Maybe he was just showing how they get their loved one involved in the BS but part of me feel like I would appreciate this film more at home. I left the theater depressed. That ending was a bitter sweet one. Spoiler alert, the KKK is still around today and to me, makes the story feel incomplete. Support black films and see it in theaters if you don’t have a problem with seeing racism on the big screen.. but if you’re looking for an escape this weekend, this ain’t it! #carlemilemoviereview (vlog coming soon).

Blindspotting

So last night I went to see the movie □□ #blindspotting at #AMC and peep they have a special line for people who use their “A-List Service” instead of #moviepass.. talk about competition!!! Blindspotting tho was a very interesting film. Very funny, not as dramatic as I thought it would be.. I imagined it to be like “the hate you give” book (and now film) but it’s more like baby boy meets Friday with a lot more freestyles and spoken word poetry. The acting was great, the direction was fantastic and the screenplay was really good as well. At moments it reminded me of Spike Lee’s Chiraq with all the rapping and Poetry in between the dialogues. Where in musicals they break into song to tell how they feel, these guys freestyle and recite poetry. Not a fan of the ending, it’s a good ending but I don’t feel like the narrative went anywhere by the end. Maybe I missed the point. Maybe I have a blindspot. I definitely plan on seeing again to get a better understanding but it’s definitely a beautiful, well crafted and well told story and I would recommend y’all see this film! Mission Impossible: Fallout

Welp!! It might be the end of #moviepass.. had to drive ten miles to see #missionimpossiblefallout .. great film.. was worth the trip.. You guys don’t understand how much I love the Mission Impossible franchise. As a kid, they used to play the Mission impossible theme on radio Disney and I would run around our apartment, acting like I was in my own espionage/spy Thriller/action adventure. The first film I saw in theaters was Ghost Protocol. Went to work the next morning whistling the theme song the whole day!! I love this film just as much as I did “Ghost”. Rouge nation, not so much but this film is it’s better half!! it’s def follows the template but is definitely unpredictable.. The cast is great, stunts and action is on □□□. Nonstop action. Great direction and writing (I swear MI2 script was too complex for me). I love how you see characters grow through this series, especially with this installment. Felt like a direct sequel that was really needed. 10/10. Hands down, one of the best films of the summer. Must see!! Idk why but I love staring at projection at the movies □ □ ... the power of projecting images on the big screen and using huge speakers □ to make sure the audience can hear every sound effect, score and dialogue .. it makes me feel really special inside. It’s one of my favorite parts of the film going experience.
