Cosby Arrested, Drake Teases Scorpion, Bow Wow's Suicidal, J Cole New Album & Kanye Loves Trump4/30/2018
Drake's domination atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart continues, but with a different song this week, as new single "Nice for What" debuts at No. 1, stopping the command of his own "God's Plan" after 11 weeks on top.
On Monday (April 16), the 6 God went on Instagram to reveal a June 2018 release date for his next album. The project’s title, by all indications, appears to be Scorpion. Drake — who is a Scorpio — first hinted at the title with a scorpion pendant then all but confirmed it by wearing a jacket featuring “Scorpion” across the back. Technically, Drake hasn’t released an album since 2016’s Views. Last year, he dropped More Life, which was billed as a playlist. Tristan Thompson didn’t hit the court at all during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ first playoff home game on Wednesday, April 18. The NBA star, instead, watched his team take home a victory against the Indiana Pacers from the bench. Thompson, 27, hasn’t played as much since news broke that he had been cheating on Khloé Kardashian during her pregnancy. After allegations — and video of him appearing to kiss a woman surfaced — he got booed during an April 11 game. Additionally, he only played two minutes in a game earlier this week. Logic is busy as hell pumping out content these days. In addition to dropping his Bobby Tarantino II mixtape in March and releasing a music video for Marshmello collab “Everybody” on Tuesday, the Maryland MC is already working on the next slew of projects. Logic has written a comedy screenplay entering production this year, and is hard at work on two novels. J. Cole shook things up this week when he announced he had a new album on the way. As promised, the Dreamville founder has now delivered KOD, a 12-track follow-up to 2016’s 4 Your Eyez Only. The project features two guest spots from the mysterious Kill Edward, who many believe is Cole’s alter ego. KOD — the North Carolina-bred rapper’s fifth studio album — carries three different meanings: Kids On Drugs, King Overdose, and Kill Our Demons. The cover art features the words “This album is in no way intended to glorify addiction” and drawings of several children sipping lean, snorting cocaine and smoking weed. In terms of guest spots, the mysterious “Kill Edward” is the sole listed feature. The project will mark the Dreamville founder’s fifth studio album and follow-up to 2016’s 4 Your Eyes Only. Cole previewed the album during surprise shows in New York City on Monday (April 16) and London on Tuesday (April 17). No phones, cameras or bags were allowed inside. This isn’t the first time Cole has dropped an album on short notice. In 2014, he released 2014 Forest Hill Drive with little to no promo and without any lead singles, and the album still went double platinum (with no features). After breaking a nearly year-long hiatus from Twitter, Kanye West is wasting no time letting the world know he’s also getting back into things on the music-making front. Yeezus has announced he’s dropping not one but two new albums, including a collaborative album/new group venture with his longtime protégé, Kid Cudi. Earlier this week, Charlamagne Tha God was spotted in Calabasas with Kanye for an impromptu listening session and now Ye is coming through with certified information. According to TMZ, while hanging with ‘Ye in Calabasas, California to interview the rapper, Charlamagne was able to preview new music. Kanye confirmed the news himself, telling a TMZ reporter Charlamagne “heard some shit” as they got into a car. “[My] album is 7 songs,” Kanye tweeted in reference to his upcoming eighth studio album. He confirmed the release date will be June 1. Kanye West’s Twitter spree of album announcements on Thursday (April 19) wasn’t limited to his own work. Yeezy also revealed Pusha T’s long-awaited King Push album is scheduled to drop on May 25.
Young M.A. made a reemergence to the music scene with her new single and video “Praktice” which aims to put her back on top. However, the “Ooouuu” rap star is dabbling into the world of skin flicks, and made her directorial debut with Pornhub.
M.A. hops behind the camera to direct all-female production The Gift, which features her music as the backdrop. In a behind the scenes trailer from the set of movie, M.A. breaks down her vision and involvement (seen in the video above).
Cardi B debut album Invasion Of Privacy was always expected to debut at the top spot of the Billboard charts but initial projections may not have taken her reach into effect. The first reports of the Bronx rapper's sales projections saw her moving between 170,000 to 200,000 equivalent album units in its first week with 45,000 to 55,000 pure sales among them.
Nicki Minaj has been M.I.A. from the music scene for some time (aside from her star turn on Migos’ “Motorsport” alongside Cardi B), but it looks like we’ll finally be finding out what she’s been so hard at work creating very soon. Only minutes ago, the self-declared “generous queen” of hip-hop posted a pair of single covers to her Instagram, teasing the release of both projects at 1PM EST Thursday (April 12).
The first cover for “Barbie Tingz” features Nicki in a Victorian-era ball gown, surrounded by masked, similarly-costumed women. The second, “Chun-Li,” depicts a closeup of Nicki clad in a Fendi ensemble with her hair pulled up into the iconic Street Fighter character’s signature ox-horn bun style.
So the other day I’m on instagram where I see Master P put up a post and in the caption he said “build a brand”. So I click it thinking he was gonna drop some jewels about branding but all he talked about was some damn rap chips. So I kept scrolling. Few days later I’m shopping for chips and guess what I see? Those damn rap chips. Didn’t realize there was sooo many. Trina has cheese puffs, fabulous had deli cheddar, lil boosie Louisa heat, Migos dabbin flavors with ranch, lil yachty with the hot cheese fries, Fetty Wap with the honey jalapeño and Romeo with the honey BBQ.
The Founder gathered together $40,000 to start Rap Snacks, and in his first meeting with a distributor he sold 800 cases, which sold out in two hours. “I kinda knew then, hey, I might have something here,” Lindsay says. Rap Snacks grew into a $5 million business, but temporarily plateaued due to the smaller size of the bags, which wasn’t as profitable for its producers. Laying low for around five years, Lindsay worked as a brand manager for rapper and fellow Philadelphian Meek Mill, which provided him with deeper insight into the power of the artist. The relaunch nine months ago meant Rap Snacks now produce larger bags and sell for a higher price, and so are more “user friendly” for manufacturers.
With product located in about 40 different cities around the U.S. and a plan in place to establish a partnership with 7/11 in the next two to three months, Rap Snacks now operates out of Atlanta, or as Lindsay describes the city, the current “mecca of hip-hop music.”
